The majority of participants in an India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation poll believe that the opposition alliance INDIA would not be able to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party. According to the survey, 54% of participants said that the Indian bloc would not be able to beat the BJP, while 33% believed otherwise. The remaining respondents were split on the issue.
At a large gathering in Bengaluru where a united Opposition announced its intention to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Lok Sabha elections next year, the alliance's new name, INDIA—short for Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance—was unveiled a little more than a month ago.
When asked if the change in name would increase support for the INDIA alliance, 39% of respondents said yes, while 30% disagreed.
Another 18% claimed that the new name INDIA was not catchy nor likely to win votes. The other people weren't sure how the elections would be impacted by the name change.
24 percent of respondents said Congressman Rahul Gandhi would be the best person to head the INDIA alliance. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, and Arvind Kejriwal, the counterpart from Delhi, were deadlocked with 15% of the vote apiece.
