Following the simultaneous authorization for landing and takeoff of two Vistara aircraft on Wednesday, a serious situation at the Delhi airport was avoided.
According to the information, a Vistara flight from Ahmedabad to Delhi had just landed on a parallel runway and was making its way toward the end of the newly inaugurated runway while flight UK725 (from Delhi to Bagdogra) was in the process of taking off from the newly opened runway.
After receiving orders from Air Traffic Control (ATC), the takeoff was canceled.
An official with knowledge of the events told the news outlet ANI about the incident: "Both were given permission at the same time, but ATC took control right away. The on-duty ATC officer requested that the Vistara flight cancel takeoff.
Immediately after takeoff was aborted, the Delhi-Bagdogra airplane returned to the parking area from the active runway.
According to airport officials, a serious accident could have occurred if the take-off had not been stopped in time.
An official informed ANI that "typically, a take-off clearance is not issued to an aircraft on one runway until the aircraft on the second runway has landed."
"However, due to a lapse, if the aircraft is permitted to take off from one runway and the aircraft approaching on the second runway decides to abort the landing and carry out a go-around to climb ahead, the flight paths of the two aircraft in the air may come into conflict since the runway they were aligned to were closely spaced," he continued.Â
