According to the National Examinations Authority (NTA), the highest number of applications for the National Eligible Entrance Examination (NEET-UG) in the past five years came from the Maharashtra state council while Uttar Pradesh gave out the highest number of qualified applicants.
This year, a whopping 2,57 lakh students from Maharashtra registered to take the medical entrance exam compared to 2.31 lakh students last year. Next were the assemblies of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh in order of candidates.
MAJOR TRENDS
More than 20.38 lakh candidates appeared for NEET-UG this year, a significant increase from 14.10 lakh in 2019.
In terms of total registrants for the period 2019-2023, students of the Central Committee for Education (CBSE), which organizes Year 12 exams across the country, topped the list with 5.51 thousand registered for NEET-UG this year. While the number of candidates from the Kerala state assembly is over 1.07 lakh and from the Bihar state assembly is over 71,000, Tripura, Mizoram, and Meghalaya state assemblies with the lowest number of candidates are all under 5,000. state board category with less than 5,000 NEET-UG candidates.

NEET-UG is a qualifying entrance exam for various medical courses including MBBS, BDS, and BAM. There are over 80,000 MBBS seats in 540 medical colleges in India.
Since May 2019, the NTA has been conducting NEET-UG on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, formerly operated by CBSE. NOT ALL CATEGORIES ARE MOTHER
Out of 20,380,000 applicants this year, a total of 11,45 million were eligible, up 48% from last year.
Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of qualified candidates (1,39 lakhs), followed by Maharashtra (1,31 lakhs) and Rajasthan (more than 1 lakhs). Kerala and Karnataka also have more than 75,000 candidates who are eligible to take the exam.
Despite the opposition of NEET-UG Tamil Nadu, it generated the highest number of the top ten candidates. Notably, eight contestants from Delhi, seven from Rajasthan, and six from Tamil Nadu all made it to the top 50. Final-year medical students across India and in 14 cities around the world took the exam in May, which was conducted in 13 different languages.
