‘No communal angle’ in Maharashtra train killings by RPF jawan, tells govt sources

According to government sources, there is no 'communal angle' in the murder of four individuals on Monday by RPF jawan Chetan Singh aboard the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express near the Palghar railway station in Maharashtra.

Around five in the morning, an RPF jawan opened fire with his service weapon, killing four Muslim males and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).

Chetan allegedly shot dead other passengers inside two additional carriages after killing his superior.

According to sources, the accused jawan is being transferred for a thorough evaluation of his mental and psychological condition.

The sources added that the jawan also murdered his Hindu superior officer, ASI Tikaram Meena.

"Just before the shooting, the accused jawan became unwell. The jawan complained of feeling lightheaded, so his superior urged him to rest. As per routine, his firearm was taken away while he rested, according to the source.

Chetan instructed his officer to join the duties after taking a break. The slain officer Tikaram Meena, though, once more urged him to take it easy if he wasn't feeling well. The accused jawan, however, asserted that he was alright and reported for duty; his weapon was also given back to him.

Some social media videos purport to show the accused RPF jawan Chetan Singh standing next to a bearded man with a gun in his hand.

Chetan attempted to run after the shooting but was stopped by police. Chetan Singh is employed by the Railway Protection Force as a constable.
