Three days after community clashes began in the Nuh district of Haryana and surrounding areas, police on Thursday said they had recorded 83 cases in four counties and arrested 165 people.
Data shared by the police department shows those arrested until 9 a.m.:
As of 30 a.m. Thursday, a maximum of 139 people had been arrested in Nuh, 21 in neighboring Gurugram, and five in Palwal. Forty-two cases have been filed in Nuh, 22 in Gurugram, 16 in Palwal, and three in Rewari.
Police also took deterrent action under Section 107/150/151 of the Criminal Procedure Code in Gurugram (57), Rewari (14) and Palwal (7). No one was detained in any county affected by the violence. Parts of Haryana as well as the borders of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan remain in a state of tension due to violence in Nuh and parts of Gurugram.
On Wednesday, Haryana Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said no one responsible for the violence would be spared and those who caused damage to private property should pay compensation.
Interior Minister Anil Vij also reiterated that "the violence was staged" and that "there was a mastermind" behind the violence.
Internet ban is relaxed for 3 hours
Meanwhile, the state Department of Home Affairs has decided to relax the three-hour ban on internet services, text, and mobile dongles from 1pm to 4pm on Thursday, "to facilitate the candidates taking the CET/Screening test (Group C post) download the entry pass and perform other necessary related work”.
Easing is planned in Nuh, Faridabad, Palwal, and three subdivisions of Gurugram - Sohna, Pataudi, and Manesar, where the ban has been extended by the authorities until Saturday evening.
