Note about PM level: Gujarat High Court refuses to continue proceedings against Kejriwal  


The Gujarat High Court on Friday rejected a plea by AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh to postpone criminal proceedings for defamation brought against them by the University of Gujarat. regarding the comment on the level of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While refusing to allow the suspension of defamation proceedings pending in the Municipal Court here against the two leaders, Judge Samir Dave noted that both had previously assured the Court of Sessions that they would continue to appear before the municipal court to register their statement.

"You have to be present... you avoid appearing in court," the judge said.

A municipal court had earlier summoned Delhi Prime Minister Kejriwal and Rajya Sabha, members of the Aam Aadmi Singh party on August 11 in a defamation lawsuit filed by the University of Gujarat over the "sarcastic and offensive statements" their crime" related to Prime Minister Modi's diploma.

The two AAP leaders subsequently filed a motion to reconsider the Court of Sessions challenging the summons of the Metropolitan Court in the defamation case. However, the Sessions Court recently denied their pleas, after which they approached the Gujarat High Court.
