Odisha woman died by suicide in IIT Hyderabad dormitory 2 weeks after arrival

Police say a 21-year-old woman studying for a master's degree at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Hyderabad committed suicide in her dormitory room.

The incident happened on Monday night.

The woman, identified as Mamitha Naik, joined the institute on July 27 to pursue a master's degree in civil engineering at IIT Hyderabad. But within two weeks of arriving at the hospital, the woman took an extreme step.

Two suicide letters were found, one written in Odia and one in English. In the letter, it is mentioned that the woman was under severe emotional pressure and that no one was responsible for her death.

The body was transferred to Sangareddy Government Hospital for an autopsy. A case will be registered and further investigation will take place.

This is the second suicide in the past three weeks after a B Tech student went missing on July 17. His body was later found on a beach in Visakhapatnam and identified by his parents on July 25.
