Owaisi's joke about "chess and ludo" as Congress-led INDIA temporarily halts protest in the Lok Sabha

Asaduddin Owaisi, a member of the All India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, took a shot at the opposition and treasury benches, saying "chess and ludo are being played" in the Parliament, as the Congress-led INDIA temporarily suspended their protest in the Lok Sabha to allow the introduction of the Delhi services bill on Tuesday.

During the Monsoon session of the Parliament, the opposition parties have been impairing procedures in the House by demanding that the prime minister issue a statement regarding the ethnic violence in Manipur. They did, however, temporarily halt the demonstration when the Lok Sabha received the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill.

I appreciate the opposition leader for allowing the House to do business without the prime minister present, Owaisi stated.

Owaisi joked, "Chess and Ludo are being played in the House."

He pointed to the treasury seats and remarked, "This side is playing ludo, they are playing chess."

The 26-member opposition coalition established to oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections does not include Owaisi's AIMIM.

The AIMIM chairman, however, said that the law broke Article 123 and that a simple bill cannot modify the Constitution.

"It is a violation of the theory of separation of powers, and it is an SC judgment of a five-membered bench from 2018, so I am saying that the house does not have legislative competence for this bill and that is why I am opposing it," he added.

The proposed legislation will increase the Central government's grip over the nation's capital by granting the Delhi Lieutenant Governor the last say in decisions on the posting and transfer of local government employees. On July 25, the Union Cabinet adopted the bill.

Amit Shah, the union minister for the interior, argued that Parliament has the authority to enact legislation for Delhi and characterized any opposition as "politically motivated."
