Pele is left in the dust as Cristiano Ronaldo breaks a record that has stood for 42 years

With a thunderous header in the 74th minute of the Arab Club Champions Cup game, Cristiano Ronaldo ignited Al Nassr's comeback from a goal down. Despite being behind 1-0 for the majority of the game, Al Nassr went on to score three more goals and ultimately won 4-1.

Along with igniting his team's comeback, Ronaldo was able to surpass German legend Gerd Muller on the list of players with the most headed goals thanks to that goal. Ronaldo had scored with his head 145 times, surpassing Muller's previous record of 144. Muller, who is regarded as one of the best goal-scorers ever, last competed for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 1981.

Santillana, a classic of Real Madrid and Spain, is third on the list, and Pele, a late icon of Brazil, is fourth. Pele had scored 124 goals with his head, compared to 125 for Santillana. After dissolving connections with Premier League club Manchester United, Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in January 2023. Since then, he has scored 15 goals for the Saudi Pro League team. This is his illustrious professional career's fifth club. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner began playing for Sporting CP in Portugal in 2002. Since then, he has played for Real Madrid from 2009 to 2018, Juventus from 2018 to 2021, and most recently Al Nassr. He played for Manchester United twice, from 2006 to 2009 and 2021 to 2022.

Since making his club debut in 2002, Ronaldo has made over 900 games and has scored over 700 goals. He also has the most goals scored at the international level. The Portuguese star has a long list of honors to his name, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four with Real Madrid and one with Manchester United. With Madrid, we won three of those championships in a row. Additionally, Ronaldo has won the Italian Serie A twice, the La Liga twice, and the English Premier League three times.
