PM Modi departs for the Johannesburg BRICS Summit, claims


Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in South Africa on Tuesday to attend the 15th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) summit held in Johannesburg under the chairmanship of South Africa from 22 to 24 August.

Before the summit, Prime Minister Modi's departure statement said he looked forward to holding bilateral meetings with a number of leaders present in Johannesburg and interacting with a number of countries invited to the event. This.

The Prime Minister will visit South Africa at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“BRICS has pursued a strong program of cooperation in various fields. We appreciate that the BRICS has become a platform for discussion and deliberation on issues of concern to the entire South, including orders for the development and reform of the multilateral system. This summit will be a useful opportunity for the BRICS to identify areas of future cooperation and review institutional developments,” Prime Minister Modi said in a statement.

The statement said Prime Minister Modi will also attend the BRICS-Africa Outreach event and the BRICS Plus Dialogue which will be held as part of the BRICS summit activities.

From South Africa, the Prime Minister will travel to Athens, Greece on August 25 at the invitation of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“This will be my first visit to this ancient land. I am honored to be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Greece in 40 years," the prime minister said in a statement. Prime Minister Modi said that his visit to Greece could open a new chapter in the multifaceted relationship between the two countries.

“The links between our two civilizations go back more than two millennia. In modern times, our relationship has been underpinned by our shared values ​​of democracy, the rule of law, and pluralism. Cooperation in various fields such as trade and investment, defense, culture, and people-to-people exchanges has brought our two countries closer together," the statement said.
