Anurag Thakur, a Union Minister, stated on Tuesday that the cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders for household use has been reduced by Rs 200 per cylinder for all consumers. This represents an 18% price decrease for a 14.2 kg cooking gas cylinder.
Anurag Thakur declared, "The rates of the LPG gas cylinders for household use have been reduced by Rs 200 per cylinder, for each and every user.
The price drop for cooking gas occurs while the nation struggles with excessive inflation. Millions of low-income households in India will profit from the government's move in the run-up to key state elections this year and the general election in 2024.
It should be noted that in addition to the Rs 7,600 crore it has budgeted for the current fiscal year, the government would need to spend an extra Rs 4,000 crore on the expanded subsidy.
14.2-kg LPG cylinders will now cost Rs 903 instead of Rs 1,103 in Delhi. Similar to this, starting on Wednesday, an LPG cylinder in Mumbai would cost Rs 902.50 instead of Rs 1,102.50.
recipients of the Ujjwala Yojana's double benefits
Beneficiaries of the government's Ujjwala Yojana will now receive a decrease of Rs 400 per cylinder, despite the fact that the cost of home LPG cylinders has been reduced by Rs 200.
Accordingly, the price of an LPG cylinder for Ujjwala recipients will now be Rs 703 in Delhi and Rs 702.50 in Mumbai with the additional subsidy.
Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana currently receive a subsidy of Rs 200; nonetheless, the rate reduction will also benefit them. Accordingly, beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will receive a fee reduction of Rs 400 per cylinder, according to Thakur.
The Prime Minister has constantly supported women's empowerment since 2014, according to Thakur, who also noted that 9.6 crore women have benefited from the government's PMUY. "Since 2014, Prime Minister Modi has made choices that support women and their empowerment. The Ujjwala Yojana helps around 9.6 crore women, he claimed.
