Amos Jacob, a member of the India men's 4x400m relay team, stated that after their historic performance at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, they plan to compete for medals in the Asian Games and Olympics.
Jacob stated that although the relay team was delighted with their result at the World Athletics Championships, they were aiming to run 2:58:00 in an interview with India Today Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai and Special Correspondent Nitin Srivastava. At the World Athletics Championships, the Indian men's 4x400-meter relay team, which included Muhammad Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Ajmal Variyathodi, and Rajesh Ramesh, placed fifth.
The 4x400m relay squad hopes to take home medals in both the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2023 Asian Games, according to Jacob. India's men's 4x400m relay team broke the Asian mark with a time of 2:59.05s while placing second in the qualifying races behind the United States. Japan owned the previous Asian record, which was 2:59.51 seconds.
"Our goal is to take home medals at the Asian Games and the Olympics. A medal in the Asian Games is predicted because we now hold the Asian record. We're hoping to bring home a medal from the Olympics as well," Jacob continued.
Yahiya got out to a steady start in the World Athletics Championships final, setting the stage for an exciting race. Hall, who is standing in for the USA.
Jacob, however, struggled with a subpar turnaround and finished the second lap in second to last place. However, Variyathodi showed off his talent as he passed the Dutch rival and took third to last place. Ramesh performed admirably to move India up to fifth place, finishing in 2:59:92s.
