Parliament on Monday challenged Baroda Bank's withdrawal notice of an electronic auction of the bungalow of actor and politician Sunny Deol in Mumbai. He asked who "triggered" these "technical reasons" to remove notifications in "less than 24 hours".
Sunny Deol's bungalow in Juhu, West Mumbai, was previously prepared for auction by Baroda Bank to recover a loan of Rs 56 crore. However, the bank has now withdrawn the notice for what it calls "technical reasons".
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Parliament Secretary General Jairam Ramesh asked: "Yesterday afternoon, the whole country learned that Baroda Bank held an online auction of BJP Sunny Deol's Juhu residence because of him. I can't repay the Rs 56 crore owed to the bank. This morning, in less than 24 hours, the whole country learned that Baroda Bank had withdrawn its auction notice for "technical reasons". I wonder who triggered these "technical reasons"? »
State Bank of Baroda has put up for sale a property owned by the actor for Rs 56 crore through an online auction to be held on August 25.
Sunny Deol has defaulted on a loan of Rs 55.99 crore along with interest and penalties since December 2022, Baroda Bank said in a public tender on Sunday. However, the notice to auction the bungalow was withdrawn.
The 65-year-old actor, officially Ajay Singh Dharmendra Deol, has represented the BJP from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha headquarters since 2019. He defeated then-Congress leader Sunil Jakhar.
Work-wise, Sunny Deol's latest film Gadar 2 is making waves at the box office and has raked in over 300 cores since its release on August 11.
