According to authorities, three people have been arrested in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district's Nrisinghpura hamlet on suspicion of raping a 14-year-old girl, killing her, and then burning her body in a coal furnace.
The family of the young girl went hunting for her after she went missing for several hours, according to the police, who told them about the incident.
The girl's brother claims that she vanished after leaving her house in the morning to pasture the livestock.
When the cattle returned in the afternoon, "we started looking for her, but my sister didn't return with them," he added.
He continued, saying that later on, about 10 o'clock, as they searched for her at the coal furnace area, they discovered human bones inside one of the furnaces that was still burning despite the rain, and they immediately called the police.
According to police, they arrived at the scene after getting the tip and caught three locals who had already confessed to the family about the alleged gang rape and murder prior to their arrest.
"Police have also found the girl's shoes and jewelry. Given the gravity of the situation, a forensic team has been involved in the investigation. For further inquiry, a DNA test would also be performed on the bone samples discovered at the furnace, according to Bhilawar Police Superintendent (SP) Adarsh Sindhu.
Khivraj Singh, the house officer (SHO) at Kotri Police Station, said that the suspects have been brought into custody and are being questioned. "The family is currently submitting the official report. For further investigation, we are awaiting the forensics report, Singh added.
Before doing any forensics tests on the samples, Kalulal Gurjar, the president of the Rajasthan Gurjar Mahasabha and a prominent member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is said to have arrived at the scene and spoken with the district collector and the SP.
