The Telangana High Court declared on Thursday that the 2018 election of B Krishna Mohan Reddy, an MLA for the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), who had won from the Gadwal Assembly Constituency, was illegal because he had omitted details about his property from his poll affidavit.
The High Court deemed DK Aruna, Reddy's vanquished opponent, to be the duly elected MLA and dismissed Reddy. Aruna, who ran for office at the time on a Congress ticket, is currently a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The High Court today granted Aruna's plea for an election, in which she claimed that Reddy had omitted from the poll affidavit information concerning his property holdings and specifics of both his and his wife's bank accounts.
According to Aruna's attorney, the High Court additionally fined Reddy Rs. 2.5 lakh in addition to another Rs. 50,000 fine for the expense of the election petition.
Reddy stated when he was approached that he had no knowledge of the (High Court) judgment and that he would appeal it, possibly to the Supreme Court.
On July 25, the High Court overturned the election of Vanama Venkateswara Rao, a member of the ruling BRS who represents the Kothagudem Assembly constituency, because he had omitted information about his immovable properties from his Form-26 affidavit during the election. He then petitioned the Supreme Court, which overturned the High Court's decision.
