United Teachers' Democratic Union faces RSS-linked coalition in Delhi University polls

Elections for the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) will be held on September 27, with around 10,000 academics ready to vote.

Ahead of the September election, a coalition of several teachers' unions was announced on Saturday.

United Teachers Democratic Alliance, a coalition of several groups including the National Congress of Teachers of India, the Association of Teachers Action and Development of AAP, the leftist Teacher Democracy Front, and several independent teacher associations such as the Front General Teachers' Organization. , the Delhi Teachers Initiative, the Independent Teachers Front for Social Justice, and the Samajwadi Shikshank Manch have come together for a common purpose.

The Democratic Union of Unified Teachers has nominated Dr. Aditya Narayan Misra as a general candidate for the post of DUTA President. In a statement, the teachers union said: "We are here together to protect the dignity and safety of all teachers. We are here to protect adequate public finances and build Build public opinion against privatization and other sinister plans of the NEP, 2020. We are committed to accepting all existing temporary and special teachers and rehabilitating those who have been replaced during the NEP. the past two years. , while protecting the services of those who have obtained a permanent appointment.

“We will pursue the request to restore the old retirement system (OPS). We will also strive to tally past service at each stage of promotion and assign professorships to associate professors who have been left behind. We will ensure full and timely payment of salaries and pensions that have been affected in recent times by central government budget allocation cuts,” it wrote. In the previous elections, a candidate from the National Democratic Teachers Front (NDTF), affiliated with the BJP-RSS, was elected President of DUTA after a 24-year hiatus. AK Bhagi won, beating his closest competitor, Abha Dev Habib of the Democratic Front for Teachers, by 1,382 votes.
