Cars can be divided into different categories, one can choose a modest hatchback or even a sedan, and then a full-size SUV to choose from. But most of the time, you'll probably be working alone in city traffic or maybe with a few friends scrambling to find a spot large enough to park. Now, MG has decided to tackle these specific issues happening around town with the MG Comet EV.
Although appearance is a subjective matter, there is little denying that comets are uniquely shaped. It blends boxy proportions with sculptural lines to create a very appealing design unlike anything else on the road. Speaking of design, there are some very high-end details on this car that only shed some light on the overall experience of owning. The nose of the car carries a strip of LED daytime running lights that connect to the horizon while the MG logo below is placed on the charging cap, which also has LED lighting. The front end has the maximum amount of aerodynamically shaped surfaces compared to the rest of the body and also features very high-end LED headlights. Viewed from the sides, the comet's sub-3m length becomes much clearer. This car could have been made bigger, but that's the purpose. What the designers did is space the wheels all the way to the corners, which frees up an incredible amount of cabin space. But more on this later. The car has only two doors, which are very large for easy access to the front and rear. There is a lot of glass surface in the comet, allowing a lot of light inside the cabin. The style statement continues at the straight rear and gets a connected LED strip and LED taillights. There's no denying that Comet is a certified star on the streets with a cute, quirky look.
Although the proportions are very small, the cabin feels spacious. That's because the MG used a Comet-made electric platform, which gives it a flat floor with wheels set at the corners, as mentioned earlier. Coupled with its long wheelbase and large glass area, the MG Comet is a spacious place where you rarely feel cramped inside.
Now, the first thing you notice inside the cabin is how premium it is. MG has used very high-quality plastic and soft fabric for the dashboard and door trim, as well as the leather on the steering wheel which gives the cabin a very premium feel. The cabin is virtually buttonless and the buttons on the steering wheel, air conditioning, and drive mode controls are all high quality.
The Comet is a tech-laden car that comes with two 10.25-inch screens - one for the driver and one for the infotainment. The driver display is high-resolution and displays data in a clear, uncluttered layout. But our favorite part is the MG Comet thumbnail in the center of the screen that accurately simulates the Comet's use of the doors, tailgate, headlights, taillights, and indicators while you're driving. The 10.25-inch infotainment display is also high-resolution with a very intuitive layout that can be customized to display any app or widget the driver wants displayed on the home screen. The display is also compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allowing for seamless smartphone integration for use with navigation, listening to music, or making calls. Storage has also been thought out by MG's designers.
