When a TV crew went to cover robberies in Chicago, they were robbed instead

After being robbed together with a colleague in the early hours of Monday in Chicago, a journalist remarked, "Total irony."

The writer and photojournalist team was getting ready for a live interview with the authorities over an increase in armed robberies. They had no idea that they were about to be the next victims of robbery.

A reporter and a photojournalist who worked for the television network Univision were robbed at gunpoint by three assailants. According to ABC7 news, the robbers "displayed firearms while wearing ski masks."

Robbers showed up at the scene at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday in a black SUV and a grey vehicle. But one of the reporters pointed out that something similar could occur "any time of the day."

One of the reporters told Block Club Chicago news, "It's a complete irony because we were getting ready for a live shot to cover news of increased robberies.

"You cover the story, but you never consider being one. That is not the reason we do it, he informed the news organization.

Despite this, he claimed that the episode serves as a reminder of the need for journalists to continue their work and exert pressure on the government. The journalists' video camera, which was considered to be "the only valuable" in the attack, was stolen.

Some Chicago neighborhoods are experiencing an increase in gun robberies. According to abc7 news, police are looking into 8 cases in which victims were robbed by a group of three to four people and occasionally also physically assaulted.
