Virat Kohli claims that, despite playing international cricket for 15 years, he still feels energized by a fresh challenge.
The 2023 ODI World Cup, which starts on October 5, will include some of cricket's most popular players, including the previous captain.
Considering that India is hosting and that this could be his last ODI World Cup appearance, Kohli wants to make it special.
In 2011, Kohli was a member of the victorious Indian World Cup team. But back then, he was a kid, just starting out in international cricket.
He led the squad at the 2019 World Cup, when India fell to New Zealand in the semifinals, and is now a seasoned veteran.
Since then, he has stepped down as captain and has found his form again after a protracted stretch of runs where he went three years without scoring an ODI hundred.
As a result, Kohli is keen to make it count this time, and he noted that playing in high-profile competitions like the World Cup is what keeps him motivated as a cricket player.
"Even after 15 years, I still enjoy challenges, and the World Cup in 2023 is one of them. The 34-year-old stated at a promotional event on Monday in Bengaluru, "It thrills me, I need something new to, you know, take me to another level.
He claimed that when faced with a task, his natural response is to take it head-on rather than run away from it.Â
Especially at home, Kohli acknowledged that there is pressure to succeed. But he added that it may also serve as an incentive, and the players themselves are quite motivated to succeed in front of their supporters.
When he assisted India in winning the World Cup in 2011, Kohli claimed he was only 23 and had no idea of its significance. But having participated in countless unsuccessful attempts, he now recognizes the value of success and can relate to how Sachin Tendulkar must have felt when he eventually succeeded at the tail end of his career.
