On Thursday, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, officially unveiled the majestic statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Omkareshwar. During the inauguration ceremony, CM Shivraj Chauhan offered prayers at the site to mark this significant event.
Situated on the Mandhata mountain in Omkareshwar, this imposing statue proudly stands on the scenic banks of the Narmada River. To witness this grand statue, one would need to travel approximately 80 kilometers from the bustling city of Indore.
CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan shared his thoughts, stating, "Adi Guru Shankaracharya Maharaj dedicated his life to connecting our nation culturally. He tirelessly worked to disseminate the wisdom of the Vedas to the common people and established four monasteries in different corners of the country, fostering cultural unity in India. Thanks to his efforts, India remains united to this day."
Born in Kerala, Adi Shankaracharya embarked on a remarkable journey that took him over 1600 kilometers through forests, ultimately leading him to find a Guru from whom he acquired profound knowledge. He later continued his journey towards Kashi (Varanasi) in Uttar Pradesh.
In addition to the statue's inauguration, CM Shivraj also laid the foundation stone for the Ekatmadham tree. During the ceremony, he emphasized the rich tradition of knowledge in Omkareshwar, stressing its importance for future generations. He expressed confidence that the philosophy of Ekatmadham (the concept of Advaita) would play a vital role in shaping the world's future.
CM Shivraj elaborated, "Shankaracharya Maharaj found his Guru in Omkareshwar, and we must ensure that the legacy of knowledge continues there for generations to come. This is why we are not only installing this divine statue but also establishing Ekatmadham. Its foundation stone will be laid."
He added, "I firmly believe that in the times ahead, our Ekatmadham, rooted in the idea of Advaita, will be a beacon of hope for the world, which is why we are undertaking this project."
