Tragedy struck in Maharashtra's Thane as a grievous accident unfolded on Sunday, resulting in the loss of six laborers' lives and leaving one individual injured. The incident took place at approximately 5:30 p.m., as the laborers were concluding their task of waterproofing the terrace in an under-construction 40-story building.
Preliminary findings suggest that the catastrophic event occurred due to the failure of one of the supporting cables on the construction lift utilized by the workers. Yasin Tadvi, who oversees Thane's disaster management cell, has disclosed this information.
It is crucial to note that the lift in question is specifically designed for construction purposes and differs from the conventional elevators found in buildings. Tragically, the lift plummeted from the 40th floor, eventually coming to rest at P3, which is three levels underground in the parking facility.
Eyewitnesses to this harrowing incident acted promptly by alerting the local fire department and the nearby police station. Despite the rapid response from emergency services, the impact of the fall resulted in the immediate loss of five lives, while another laborer succumbed to their injuries.
At present, authorities are actively engaged in conducting a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the precise cause behind the tragic collapse of the lift.
