After Sophie Turner accuses him of denying her children's passports, Joe Jonas responds

Tensions are escalating between Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, who tied the knot four years ago, as they have now initiated divorce proceedings. Amidst this, Sophie has taken legal action against Joe, alleging that he is withholding their children's passports. The actress has filed a lawsuit against him, claiming that he is preventing their daughters from returning to England, her home country. A spokesperson for Joe Jonas has issued an official statement in response to these developments.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner recently announced their separation through a joint statement on Instagram, expressing their desire for privacy. The couple has two children - a three-year-old named Willa and another 14-month-old daughter.

In a lawsuit filed in a Manhattan court, Sophie Turner has requested the return of her two children to England. The complaint against Joe seeks "the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained," according to People. Sophie's legal team asserts that the "wrongful retention" began on September 20.

Sophie has also claimed that she and Joe had previously agreed that England would be their "forever home" in conversations that took place during Christmas 2022.

Joe Jonas's representative has issued a statement in response, stating, "After multiple conversations with Sophie, Joe initiated divorce proceedings in Florida, as Florida is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. Sophie was aware that Joe was going to file for divorce. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago."

The statement goes on to mention that Joe and Sophie had a "cordial meeting" in New York, where they reached an understanding for an amicable co-parenting arrangement. However, Sophie later expressed her desire to permanently move the children to the UK and subsequently demanded their passports through legal action.

Joe is reportedly seeking shared parenting for the children, with the flexibility for them to be raised in both the US and the UK. The statement emphasizes that the children have spent most of their lives in the US.

The statement also addresses the use of terms like "abduction," stating that it is misleading and an abuse of the legal system. It asserts that Joe has had custody of the children for the past three months with mutual agreement. The statement suggests that Sophie's legal actions are aimed at shifting the divorce proceedings to the UK and removing the children from the US permanently.

The statement concludes by highlighting Joe's concern for the well-being of his children and his desire for Sophie to reconsider her legal position and pursue a more constructive and private resolution.

The couple issued a joint statement on social media, announcing their mutual decision to end their four-year marriage. They requested privacy, especially for the sake of their young daughter, and urged everyone to respect their wishes and avoid speculating or believing in false narratives about their separation. Their statement emphasized that their decision was united and mutual, and they expressed their hope that their privacy would be preserved during this time.
