Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, issued a challenge to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, daring them to consider altering the name of India. He pointed out that until last year, the BJP government had administered numerous central schemes under the name "India," but now, with the formation of the Opposition bloc INDIA, there have been calls to change the country's name.
During a rally in the poll-bound state of Chhattisgarh, Arvind Kejriwal declared, "Does India belong to your father? It belongs to 140 crore people. India lives in our hearts, Bharat lives in our hearts, Hindustan lives in our hearts." He further challenged the BJP to attempt to change the name of India.
Arvind Kejriwal's remarks surfaced amidst speculation that the government might introduce a resolution to rename India as "Bharat" during an upcoming special session of Parliament. This alleged proposal to rename India has faced opposition from various political parties.
On Saturday, the AAP leader emphasized that a coalition of 28 opposition parties in the country had united to form an alliance called INDIA. He noted, "The BJP government was so upset that they declared their intention to change the nation's name to Bharat...If tomorrow, the Opposition alliance chooses to identify itself as Bharat, will you (BJP) once again alter the country's name?" Arvind Kejriwal queried.
