Following the company's announcement, the launch date for the OnePlus foldable phone was leaked

During a significant technology unveiling at TechCrunch Disrupt 2023, OnePlus officially confirmed its entry into the foldable phone market. Zeng Xi, the Creative Director for Product at OnePlus, disclosed this development during a special event focused on "How to Stay Ahead in the Tech Game." While he only revealed that OnePlus will soon announce its foldable phone, well-known tipster Max claimed on Twitter that the phone's launch date is set for October 19.

As of now, leaks have suggested that the device might be named OnePlus Open, but OnePlus has yet to confirm this and is currently referring to it simply as a foldable phone. Although there is still sometime before the new foldable phone hits the market, the leaks have provided a glimpse of what to expect in terms of specifications. Additionally, price details have been leaked, indicating that the OnePlus phone could be priced slightly lower than Samsung's foldable phones. If this turns out to be accurate, it wouldn't be surprising, as OnePlus has historically adopted a similar pricing strategy for its earlier phones to compete with major tech giants and provide consumers with an attractive combination of specifications and affordability.

Tipster Yogesh Brar asserted on Twitter that the upcoming OnePlus Open foldable phone might be priced at less than Rs 1,20,000. In comparison, the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is available in India at Rs 1,54,999 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. It will be intriguing to see how OnePlus sets the price for its inaugural foldable phone and persuades users to choose it over Samsung's foldables.

The tipster also suggested that OnePlus's first foldable phone could share similarities with the Oppo Find N2, a book-style foldable that debuted in 2022. The initial foldable from OnePlus is rumoured to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The device is expected to feature a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED primary screen and a 6.3-inch AMOLED cover display. Both displays are anticipated to offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

Regarding its camera capabilities, the OnePlus Open is rumoured to include a 50-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 48-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens, and a 32-megapixel camera with a periscope lens on the rear. The tipster indicates that the OnePlus Open could feature a periscope lens with 3x optical zoom. For selfies, it may come equipped with two 32-megapixel front-facing cameras, as per leaks.
