A woman in Delhi has recently come forward with distressing allegations of harassment that she endured while traveling on a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus during her commute from work to the metro station.
In her detailed account of the incident, she describes experiencing inappropriate physical contact from a man in his 50s, an unsettling occurrence that has left her feeling not only profoundly uncomfortable but also overwhelmed by a sense of revulsion.
In an effort to express her disconcerting encounter, this woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, sought solace on the platform of Reddit, where she shared her harrowing experience. In her post, she described her ordeal, saying, "I was harassed on the DTC bus, and I feel absolutely awful. I didn't know how to react, and I'm in tears."
According to her narrative, her journey on a densely packed DTC bus took a disconcerting turn when she noticed an elderly man standing uncomfortably close behind her.
As time passed, she began to experience a disturbing form of physical contact. Initially, she dismissed it as accidental, but as these intrusive actions continued, she mustered the courage to politely request that the man maintain a respectable distance.
"I was caught off guard and growing increasingly frustrated. I turned to him and said, 'Please maintain some distance, alright.' Just then, the bus driver abruptly hit the brakes, causing everyone to jolt forward. This sudden distraction meant that the individuals in close proximity to me couldn't fully comprehend the gravity of the situation. Despite raising my voice, the man simply disregarded me and moved behind me, as if my request had been directed at someone else," the woman articulated in her post.
"I am filled with anger and a profound sense of repulsion at this very moment. I should have vehemently reprimanded him, using strong language. I should have made a scene loud enough to have him promptly removed from the bus. However, I was so stunned by the recent occurrence that I found myself unable to respond," she continued to recount.
The woman's unsettling experience has struck a chord with many online readers, prompting outrage and empathetic responses. One Reddit user aptly noted, "Regardless of how one believes they will react in such a situation, it is often the case that, when confronted with such a distressing incident, individuals may find themselves momentarily paralyzed, followed by a profound sense of self-disappointment in the aftermath."
It is worth noting that this incident comes shortly after a separate incident in which a woman was subjected to sexual assault by a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus conductor in the Timarpur area of north Delhi. The accused also captured explicit photos and videos of the victim and subsequently used them to blackmail her for further sexual favors. Thankfully, the Delhi Police arrested the accused following the victim's report of the incident.
