In Delhi, a woman and her daughter were killed by a speeding car while they slept outside shanties


On Friday, a tragic incident unfolded in north Delhi near Majnu ka Tila, resulting in the unfortunate demise of a woman and her four-year-old daughter, while leaving three others injured. This distressing incident transpired when a speeding vehicle collided with them while they were sleeping outside their makeshift dwellings, as reported by the police.

At 5:33 am, a PCR call was made, informing authorities that a tempo had struck three individuals, among them a woman, near the vicinity of Majnu ka Tilla, specifically at 56 Pahadi in Civil Lines, according to a statement from a senior police officer. Responding promptly to the distress call, the police arrived at the scene to find a Tata Ace vehicle involved in the accident, with five individuals sustaining injuries, as explained by the officer.

Subsequently, the injured parties were expeditiously transported to the trauma centre for medical attention. Regrettably, Jyoti, aged 32, was declared deceased at the medical facility, while her daughter tragically succumbed to her injuries during the course of treatment, as reported by the police.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (north), Sagar Singh Kalsi, conveyed that Subhash, aged 30, along with two children, aged six and 17 years, sustained minor injuries and were subsequently discharged from the hospital after receiving necessary medical care.

The individual responsible for the accident, identified as Dinesh Rai and residing in Karawal Nagar, was detained by members of the public and subjected to physical assault before being taken into police custody. Subsequently, the authorities have apprehended him.

In response to this grievous incident, a case has been registered under sections 279 (pertaining to rash driving), 337 (relating to causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others), and 304A (concerning causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) added that an ongoing investigation is being conducted into the matter.
