Tragedy struck near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris district on Saturday when a bus carrying a total of 59 passengers, including two drivers, met with a horrific accident, resulting in the loss of at least eight lives and leaving numerous others injured. The ill-fated bus was en route from Coonoor to Tenkasi, carrying passengers who had embarked on a tour to Ooty and were returning to their homes.
According to law enforcement officials, the bus tragically lost control while navigating the intricate and winding hairpin bend roads, ultimately resulting in a catastrophic plunge into the valley.
Swift response from local authorities and dedicated rescue teams was witnessed as they rushed to the accident scene to provide immediate assistance to those in need. Tragically, among the passengers who were rescued, eight individuals could not be saved, succumbing to their injuries after being transported to medical facilities. Several others, meanwhile, are reported to be in precarious health conditions, currently receiving essential medical attention.
In response to this heartbreaking incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin conveyed his deepest condolences and took swift action by announcing a financial relief package of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the victims who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
The precise cause of this unfortunate accident remains under investigation, as local law enforcement authorities have initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
