Karan Johar on his placement: If I were Karan Kashyap, then

Karan Johar's latest cinematic endeavour, 'Kill', is an action-packed thriller that recently had the honour of premiering at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. During the film's promotional activities, the renowned director addressed the prevalent perception that Dharma Productions primarily specializes in producing movies centred around 'affluent' individuals.

Engaging in a post-screening discussion following 'Kill's' premiere, Karan Johar found himself fielding questions about the intriguing departure from his production house's typical filmography. In response, he articulated, "I've been actively endeavouring to dismantle this notion associated with Dharma Productions. It's rather burdensome because I still encounter inquiries like 'Do you exclusively create family-oriented films?' or 'Are your movies tailored solely for the NRI audience?' or even 'Do your films predominantly feature affluent characters?' It's genuinely preposterous how people are quick to categorize."

In a playful nod to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, he went on to jest, "Perception can be quite constraining. If my name were Karan Kashyap, my reception within a certain segment of the audience might be markedly different. It's almost as if I'm constrained by my own name."

Notably, Anurag Kashyap stands as one of the industry's most respected directors, renowned for his gritty and unconventional cinematic offerings. His filmography boasts critically acclaimed works such as 'Black Friday,' 'Dev D,' 'Gangs of Wasseypur,' and 'Ugly.' Interestingly, Karan Johar himself played a villainous role in Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet.'

'Kill' is the result of a collaboration between Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment. Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt, this action-packed thriller features Lakshya in the lead role, marking his debut in the film industry. Alongside Lakshya, the film also stars Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala in pivotal roles.
