After a period of extensive leaks, Apple has officially introduced the latest iPhone 15 series. This year, the tech giant continues its tradition of unveiling four models: the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and the Pro Max variant. Notably, there's no Ultra variant as earlier leaks had suggested. Apple has brought about significant changes to the design of the new iPhones, encompassing features like the USB-C port and Dynamic Island. Both the standard and Pro models have undergone substantial hardware upgrades. Below, we delve into the specifications, pricing, design, and other pertinent details of the freshly launched iPhone 15 series.
While the Indian pricing is expected to be disclosed shortly, Apple has already divulged that the starting price for the US market will be $799. Remarkably, the Indian pricing is anticipated to remain consistent with that of the previous year's model. Furthermore, the company has chosen to retain the pricing of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the standard iPhone 15 Pro will be available at the same cost as the previous model in the US. This means that the Pro will carry a price tag of $999, while the Pro Max will be priced at $1,199. These devices will be up for sale in the US from September 22.
However, the Indian market has witnessed an increase in the prices of the Pro models. In India, the iPhone 15 Pro will commence from Rs 1,34,900, while the Pro Max variant will be priced at Rs 1,59,900. As for the iPhone 15, it will be available at a price of Rs 79,900 in India for the 128GB storage model, with the Plus model retailing for Rs 89,900.
The iPhone 15 series retains the existing design paradigm, featuring the same boxy design with a dual-camera configuration at the rear. A notable alteration in the design is the inclusion of a USB Type C port at the bottom, marking the end of Apple's Lightning port era. This transition ensures that users no longer need to carry a separate charger for their iPhones.
Another significant change Apple has introduced is the integration of a punch-hole display design on the front. While this feature made its debut with the iPhone 14 Pro models last year, it was conspicuously absent from the standard models. However, Apple has now rectified this by incorporating the Dynamic Island feature into all the new iPhone 15 models.
Additionally, Apple has replaced the mute switch button with a new Action Button, providing users with swift access to shortcuts, accessibility features, camera activation, flashlight, and a variety of other functions. Although its default function remains that of a ringer switch, it holds the potential to unlock a multitude of additional functionalities, making it a versatile tool capable of performing tasks beyond adjusting the phone's ringer.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be offered in new colors, including Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Black.
The iPhone 15 continues to maintain a compact form factor, equipped with a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display similar to the iPhone 14 and preceding iPhone models. Meanwhile, the Plus model retains its 6.7-inch screen.
In the camera department, the iPhone 15 has undergone a significant upgrade. Both the standard and Plus models feature a 48-megapixel primary camera sensor, a substantial leap from the 12-megapixel dual-camera system seen in the previous year's model. This hardware mirrors the specifications introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro last year, complete with a novel telephoto feature integrated into the Camera app. Additionally, new features like night mode and Smart HDR mode, among others, enhance the photography experience.
Users can also capture 4K videos, with Apple introducing improvements in the portrait mode, offering enhanced bokeh effects, faster shutter speeds, and easier access. Furthermore, users can leverage focus and depth control options within the portrait mode for increased creative control. On the rear, the secondary sensor is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with an f/1.6 aperture and sensor-shift stabilization. The new standard models also incorporate a 12-megapixel TrueDepth front-facing camera for high-quality selfies and Face ID capabilities.
Under the hood, this year's standard iPhones employ the A16 Bionic chipset, also featured in the previous year's iPhone 14 Pro models. Apple asserts that users can expect a full day's battery life from the iPhone 15.
The iPhone 15 utilizes an advanced machine learning model to effectively filter voice calls, even in noisy environments, with the option to activate "voice isolation." The only difference between the iPhone 15 and Plus models lies in the display and battery, with the Plus variant offering slightly more in both these aspects.
On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models boast a lighter, more durable titanium chassis with a brushed finish to reduce fingerprint smudging. The device's edges exhibit smoother and more rounded contours where the metal meets the glass. Additionally, a USB-C port is now featured at the bottom.
Apple has retained the 6.7-inch OLED screen seen on the previous Pro Max model, while the Pro version retains a 6.1-inch screen. Both Pro models are equipped with Super Retina XDR displays, complete with ProMotion technology. They support both the always-on display feature and the recently introduced StandBy mode in iOS 17, ensuring a dynamic and power-efficient visual experience.
Both devices run on the A17 Pro chip, a powerhouse that Apple asserts delivers unparalleled performance within the smartphone realm, potentially rivaling even high-end PCs. With a revamped GPU at its core, Apple envisions these devices as game-changers, capable of elevating the mobile gaming experience to new heights.
