Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, shared his concerns regarding specific "extremist groups" that have been involved in "anti-India activities" in Canada. These concerns primarily revolve around the escalating Khalistani activities that have been witnessed in Canada over recent months.
On the 10th of September, as part of the G20 Summit proceedings, Prime Minister Modi took the opportunity to articulate these concerns. He emphasized that these groups are actively advocating for the separation of India, inciting violence against Indian diplomats, causing damage to diplomatic establishments, and even issuing threats to the Indian community in Canada, including their places of worship.
In this context, Prime Minister Modi underscored that the foundation of India-Canada relations is firmly rooted in shared democratic values, a commitment to the rule of law, and robust people-to-people connections. He further conveyed the pressing need to address the persistent activities of extremist elements in Canada that are detrimental to India-Canada relations.
Of particular concern is the association of these extremist groups with organized criminal networks, involvement in drug syndicates, and human trafficking. These multifaceted threats should be a subject of shared apprehension for both India and Canada. Thus, Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of collaborative efforts between the two nations to effectively address and mitigate these challenges.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that fostering a relationship founded on mutual respect and trust is imperative for advancing and strengthening India-Canada ties.
