In Maharashtra's Raigad district, a goods train derailed on a Saturday afternoon, causing disruptions to operations on the Panvel-Vasai route, as reported by the Central Railway.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in this incident, according to preliminary information.
Shivraj Manaspure, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway, revealed that the derailment involved four wagons, including a brake van, of a freight train en route to Vasai (located in Palghar district) from Panvel (located in Raigad district). This incident occurred on the Panvel-Kalamboli section around 3.05 p.m.
Manaspure further stated that Accident Relief Trains (ART) from Kalyan and Kurla stations are being dispatched to the accident site, and a Road ART has been sent from Panvel to assist at the scene. Restoration work is expected to commence shortly.
Following the derailment, at least five passenger trains were held at various points along the Konkan-Mumbai route.
It's worth noting that Navi Mumbai suburban services between the Panvel-CSMT section remained unaffected, as the incident specifically occurred on the Panvel-Kalamboli railway line, which subsequently connects to Mumbai and Vasai.
Additionally, railway authorities have scheduled a 38-hour mega block between Panvel and Belapur stations on the Harbour and Trans-Harbour corridors, commencing on Saturday night. This block is intended to facilitate the laying of two new lines under the Dedicated Freight Corridor project.
