PM Modi praises the G20 secretariat staff for their "hard work" after meeting them

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an unexpected visit to the G20 Secretariat housed at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan on Tuesday. During his visit, he engaged with the officers who had been diligently working for the success of the G20 summit in New Delhi, expressing his gratitude for their hard work.

Prime Minister Modi took the opportunity to interact with staff members at various levels, including officers from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), to discuss their experiences related to the G20 summit.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar accompanied the Prime Minister during this impromptu visit.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had assigned 114 lead officers to carry out G20 duties under the guidance of India's G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant, and Chief Coordinator Harsh Shringla. Furthermore, in August, 140 young officers from various services were brought in to assist with the organization of the summit.

Senior officials from the MEA played pivotal roles in negotiating with member states to achieve a consensus on the joint communique, addressing various issues, including the contentious Russia-Ukraine matter. This successful outcome marked a historic achievement during India's presidency of the G20.

The success of the summit was the culmination of extensive negotiations that spanned over 200 hours, involving 300 bilateral meetings, and required 15 draft iterations.

According to Amitabh Kant, key members of his team, including senior MEA officials Abhay Thakur, Nagaraj Naidu, Ashish Sinha, and Eenam Gambhir, made significant contributions to the development of a comprehensive final draft document.
