Putin claims that the allegations against Trump demonstrate the 'rottenness' of US politics

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during an appearance at the Eastern Economic Forum event in Vladivostok, has issued a statement characterizing the criminal cases against former US President Donald Trump as a form of "persecution driven by political motivations." He went further to argue that this situation sheds light on the pervasive corruption within the United States.

Putin's remarks on Trump's legal troubles emphasized the current state of the American political system. He stated, "As for the prosecution of Trump, for us, what is happening in today’s conditions, in my opinion, is good because it shows the rottenness of the American political system, which cannot pretend to teach others democracy."

He went on to assert that the actions taken against Trump amount to the targeting of a political opponent for political reasons, a spectacle playing out in full view of the American public and the global community.

According to public opinion polls, Donald Trump is the frontrunner for the Republican Party's nomination in the upcoming 2024 US presidential election. Trump has made statements suggesting that he could swiftly resolve the Ukrainian conflict if he were to regain the presidency, although he has not provided specific details regarding his proposed strategy.

In response to Trump's assertion, Putin commented, "We hear that Mr. Trump says that he will solve pressing problems in a few days, including the Ukrainian crisis. Well, this cannot but bring happiness. This is good."

However, Putin tempered any optimism about substantial improvements in US-Russia relations, regardless of who becomes the next US president. He expressed skepticism, stating that it is unlikely that there will be any radical changes. Putin also accused the Biden administration of maintaining a strong anti-Russia bias, which, he argued, makes it exceedingly difficult to alter the current trajectory of US-Russia relations.
