A state of turmoil gripped Rajasthan's Pali district, as villagers descended upon a private school, engaging in acts of vandalism within the school premises and confronting the school's management. This uproar stemmed from grave allegations that the school administration had shielded a teacher accused of raping a four-year-old Dalit girl.
The villagers expressed their fury over the school's purported involvement in protecting the accused teacher, identified as 23-year-old Ravi Vagoriya, who was employed as a teacher at the private school.
The incident allegedly occurred on September 22 when Vagoriya was accused of raping the four-year-old girl. The family of the girl asserted that they promptly reported the incident to the school principal. However, instead of taking appropriate action against the accused teacher, the principal is said to have made efforts to suppress the matter.
The child's mother recounted the horrifying ordeal, saying, "While I was taking my girl back after she relieved herself, I saw her bleeding. I asked the principal about it, and she mentioned that some sharp object may have pierced her."
Furious villagers converged on the school premises to vent their anger, resulting in acts of vandalism. School furniture was thrown about, and the school manager allegedly faced physical assault, compelling him to seek refuge in a nearby house.
In response to the situation, the police initiated legal proceedings, registering a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Consequently, the accused teacher was taken into custody pending further investigation.
Sangeeta Beniwal, Chairperson of the Rajasthan Child Rights Protection Commission, took cognizance of the matter and issued directives to the District Education Officer and Superintendent of Police to furnish a comprehensive report within a three-day timeframe.
