Shahid Kapoor, who recently ventured into the world of OTT series with his debut in 'Farzi,' recently opened up in an interview about his unique decision related to the 2014 film 'Haider,' directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. In this revelation, Kapoor shared that he did not charge any fee for his role in 'Haider' due to budget constraints.
In the ensemble cast of 'Haider,' alongside Kapoor were acclaimed actors such as Tabu, Kay Kay Menon, Irrfan Khan, and Shraddha Kapoor. However, Kapoor's decision to forgo his usual remuneration was a singular occurrence in his career. He explained that the film's budget simply couldn't accommodate his regular fee, leading him to offer his services free of charge.
Kapoor recalled the situation, stating, "They couldn't afford me. They said if they had to pay me, then the budget of the film wouldn't get sanctioned because it was a very experimental subject. They really didn't know if it would land at all, but it was a very compelling kind of product to make, so I said, 'Yeah, I will do it for free.'"
When asked if he had similarly waived his fees for other projects, Kapoor clarified that his fee-less contribution to 'Haider' remained a unique occurrence. He chuckled while emphasizing the importance of sustaining his livelihood, saying, "Ghar bhi chalana hai," which translates to "I also have to run my household."
'Haider,' a film based on Shakespeare's Hamlet, is hailed as one of Kapoor's most remarkable performances in his career.
Shahid Kapoor's next project is an untitled film by Maddock Films, in which he stars alongside Kriti Sanon.
