In a widely circulated video, Elizabeth Antony, the mother of Anil Antony, can be seen elucidating the motivations behind her son Anil's decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), his father A.K. Antony's concerns about it, and her journey of acceptance.
Anil Antony, the son of senior Kerala Congress leader A.K. Antony, made the noteworthy move of joining the BJP back in April of this year, a decision that drew criticism from various quarters, including A.K. Antony himself, who labelled his son's choice as a "wrong move."
Now, more than five months later, a video featuring Anil Antony's mother, Elizabeth Antony, has gone viral. In the video, she sheds light on the factors motivating her son's decision, her and A.K. Antony's initial reservations, and how they eventually came to terms with it.
Elizabeth, in the widely shared video, attributes her newfound acceptance of the BJP to St. Mary and the counsel of a church priest.
"Anil always aspired to enter the realm of politics. However, after the Congress passed a resolution against dynastic politics during the Chintan Shivir, Anil perceived a substantial impediment to his aspirations. This presented a significant crossroads for my 39-year-old son's future," Elizabeth recounted.
She went on to mention that due to their strong allegiance to the Congress party, both she and A.K. Antony initially found it challenging to reconcile with Anil's revelation that he had received an invitation from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) to join the BJP.
"That's when I sought guidance at this church. The priest advised me not to wait for Anil's return and reassured me that the BJP could provide him with a promising future," she shared.
Elizabeth also narrated how her concerns about the BJP began to dissipate under the influence of St. Mary, a revered figure in Christianity, and the priest's counsel. "At that moment, all my resentment and doubts about the BJP vanished, and I was filled with newfound hope, thanks to the Lord," she expressed in the video.
Additionally, she expressed apprehension about A.K. Antony's reaction to Anil's BJP affiliation but revealed that his father accepted Anil's decision calmly.
It is noteworthy that in May of the preceding year, the Congress party convened a Chintan Shivir in Jaipur, during which the 'One Family, One Ticket' formula was endorsed.
When Anil Antony made the move to join the BJP in April of this year, his father, A.K. Antony, did not initially approve of it. He criticized the BJP, emphasizing that India's unity is rooted in its secularism but suggesting that there had been efforts to disrupt the country's secular fabric since 2014.
