The governor of Manipur orders an investigation into the death of a soldier and requests a report within a month

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey has taken the initiative to investigate the unfortunate incident involving the abduction and subsequent killing of an Army soldier within the state. As part of this effort, she has directed the state government to establish a 'one-man inquiry commission' to delve into the circumstances surrounding the tragic demise of Soldier Serto Thangthang Kom.

The soldier, Serto Thangthang Kom, was taken from his residence near Neikhanlong in Imphal West on September 16. It's worth noting that he was stationed at the Leimakhong Military Station in Manipur and was on medical leave at the time of the incident.

Based on the account provided by his 10-year-old son, who was the sole eyewitness, three individuals entered their home while both father and son were occupied on the porch. Tragically, Kom's lifeless body was discovered on Sunday near Khuningtek at 8 a.m.

To oversee the investigation into Kom's untimely demise and examine the findings, the Manipur Governor has appointed IPS Thenthing Ngashangva. The directive stipulates that the report must be submitted within one month.

In addition, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has extended support and reassurance to the minority Kom community, of which the deceased soldier was a member. The state government has pledged to provide a government job to one of the soldier's family members. Furthermore, Singh has affirmed the state's commitment to enhancing security measures in Kom-inhabited villages.

It is noteworthy that the Kom community includes renowned boxing legend Mary Kom. She had previously reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, advocating for the security and protection of the Kom community in Manipur.
