Third eruption of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii this year

The Kilauea volcano situated on Hawaii's Big Island commenced its eruption on Sunday afternoon, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Presently, the lava flows are limited to the crater floor surrounding the volcano, and visual evidence from webcams reveals fissures at the base of the crater generating surface lava flows.

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency conveyed through X, formerly known as Twitter, that this eruption does not pose a threat of lava flow to nearby communities. However, it is important to note that volcanic particles and gases emitted during the eruption may lead to respiratory difficulties for individuals exposed to them.

The eruption followed a period of intensified seismic activity and a notable "rapid uplift" of the volcano's summit, as detailed by the USGS. Consequently, the agency escalated Kilauea's aviation color code from orange to red while concurrently shifting its volcano alert status from watch to warning.

Kilauea, situated within an enclosed section of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, ranks among the world's most actively erupting volcanoes. In 2019, a series of earthquakes and a significant eruption at Kilauea resulted in the destruction of numerous residences and businesses.

Moreover, this volcano experienced eruptions in both January and June of the current year, signifying its ongoing volcanic activity.
