The Bihar government has officially declared a new policy wherein individuals falling under the economically weaker section (EWS) category will now be entitled to a 10 percent reservation in the domain of judicial services within the state, as well as in state-operated law colleges and universities. This announcement comes just one day after the state government unveiled the results of its comprehensive caste-based survey.
S Siddhartha, the Additional Chief Secretary responsible for Cabinet Secretariat affairs, formally disclosed that this reservation provision for the EWS category had received unanimous approval from the Bihar cabinet. The principal secretary of the state released an official communication to this effect, indicating that the registrar general of the Patna High Court had forwarded a request to the general administration department advocating for the implementation of EWS reservations in the realm of judicial services.
The state government has officially ratified the Bihar Higher Judicial Service (Amendment) Manual 2023 and the Bihar Civil Services (Judicial Wing) (Recruitment) (Amendment) Manual 2023. These amendments effectively incorporate the reservation policy aimed at benefiting economically disadvantaged individuals.
