Tragic events unfolded on Tuesday as two separate fire accidents occurred at fireworks units in Rangapalayam and Kichanayakanpatti village in the district, resulting in the loss of at least eleven lives and leaving two individuals injured, according to the police.
In the wake of these incidents, collaborative efforts were witnessed involving the police, fire, and rescue service personnel, as well as members of the public. Together, they worked tirelessly to extinguish the raging flames and to rescue the victims.
One of the accidents transpired at a fireworks unit in Rangapalayam, where a sudden blast claimed seven lives, and as of now, their identities remain unconfirmed, as revealed by a senior police official. The authorities suspect that the victims might have been workers, adding to the distressing situation. Furthermore, three individuals who were rescued from this unit ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
In another heartbreaking episode, a fire engulfed a fireworks unit in Kichanayakanpatti village, leading to the tragic demise of a 35-year-old man identified as Vembu. Fortunately, two women workers were rescued from this unit and have been admitted to the Srivilliputtur Government Hospital to receive the necessary medical treatment.
In response to this devastating loss of lives, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed his condolences and announced financial support. He pledged a solatium of Rs 3 lakh for the families of each deceased victim and Rs 1 lakh for those who suffered grievous injuries, seeking to alleviate the suffering caused by these tragic incidents.
