A 32-year-old man was taken into custody by the police on Tuesday for allegedly molesting a female co-passenger during a flight from Pune to Nagpur on a private airline. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Feroze Shaikh, an engineer residing in Pune's Kondhwa area.
The complainant, a 40-year-old woman from Chandrapur, was en route to Nagpur to perform the last rites of her father, as stated by an official from the Sonegaon police station.
Upon the flight's arrival at Nagpur airport, the accused allegedly made unwelcome advances towards her. A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan, also on the flight, intervened and restrained Shaikh, subsequently reporting the incident to the police, the official mentioned.
Shaikh has been charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 354 (pertaining to assaulting or using criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 354 (a) (related to sexual harassment), and 509 (pertaining to any word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). The investigation is ongoing, the official added.
