A accident between two trains in Bangladesh resulted in 20 deaths and numerous injuries

 


Officials in Bangladesh reported a tragic incident that resulted in at least 20 fatalities and numerous injuries on Monday. The accident occurred when a freight train, bound for Chattogram, collided with the rear carriages of the Dhaka-bound Egarosindur Godhuli Express at around 3:30 pm local time in the Bhairab area of Kishoreganj district, located about 60 kilometres from the capital, Dhaka.

According to Sirajul Islam, the duty officer at Bhairab Railway Police Station, this devastating collision took place in the northeastern Kishoreganj district. An official from the elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion mentioned that 20 bodies have been recovered, and rescue operations are being strenuously supported. 

Fire service personnel who arrived at the scene reported that three passenger carriages had overturned, and there were concerns that many individuals might be trapped under the damaged wagons. Approximately 100 passengers were rescued, sustaining injuries and subsequently being transported to various healthcare facilities. 

Authorities are anticipating the possibility of discovering more bodies and injured passengers as the rescue efforts continue. A rescue train equipped with cranes has been dispatched to the accident site.

Shahjahan Sikder, the media chief for Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, stated that more than a dozen fire service units are actively participating in the rescue operations.

According to Anowar Hossain, the superintendent of Dhaka Railway Police, initial reports suggest that the freight train collided with the Egaro Sindur from behind, striking two of the carriages. These tragic circumstances have undoubtedly led to a significant loss of life and injuries.
