A Canadian man of Indian descent is accused of 16 offenses, including attacking police officers

A 24-year-old man of Indian origin, identified as Rajbir Singh and residing in Brampton, Canada, has found himself entangled in a legal web, facing an array of 16 charges. These charges stem from an incident in Ontario province, during which he attempted to evade authorities conducting an inquiry into a vehicle theft, subsequently resorting to an assault on police officers using pepper spray.

Among the charges levied against Rajbir Singh are two counts of assaulting a police officer, two counts of assault with the intent to resist arrest, robbery, and theft of a motor vehicle, among various other related offenses.

The event unfolded on October 6 in Mississauga when officers were scrutinizing a vehicle parked in a hotel parking lot. The vehicle, equipped with a seemingly fraudulent license plate, attracted their attention. The situation took a turn when the driver, identified as Rajbir, endeavored to abscond in the vehicle, causing damage to multiple vehicles, including a police vehicle. Subsequently, he attempted to escape on foot and made an endeavor to hijack another vehicle. Eventually, law enforcement took him into custody, but not without resistance, as he deployed pepper spray against several officers, causing minor injuries to the Strategic Tactical Enforcement Program officers from the Peel Regional Police. Paramedics at the scene provided treatment for their injuries.

Additionally, the police statement disclosed that, apart from the 16 charges stemming from the recent incident, Rajbir Singh also faces charges associated with five separate episodes from the preceding year, all related to similar offenses. Subsequently, he was detained for a bail hearing and presented at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
