The cybercrime police in the Karur district of Tamil Nadu have taken into custody a member of the state's BJP youth wing due to derogatory comments he made about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
The arrest took place at the residence of Pravinraj, who serves as the social media in-charge for the Tamil Nadu BJP youth wing, during the early hours of Sunday. The police's action followed an initial inquiry conducted by the Karur cybercrime unit.
Pravinraj is known to operate a social media account under the pseudonym "Sanghi Prince" on the platform formerly known as Twitter. On August 10, he uploaded a video featuring Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi, accompanied by disparaging comments targeting the siblings. In his post, he labeled Rahul Gandhi as a dishonest politician.
Following a complaint lodged by members of the Karur Congress Committee, the district's cybercrime authorities proceeded to apprehend Pravinraj. In response to his arrest, Pravinraj claimed that law enforcement officers had attempted to forcibly enter his residence during the arrest and had refused to provide their identification details to anyone.
Expressing her disapproval of Pravinraj's social media post, Jothimani, the Congress Member of Parliament representing Karur, asserted that personal attacks against leaders of her party should not be tolerated.
