According to Justin Trudeau, Canada is not seeking to aggravate the situation with India

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated on Tuesday that Canada has no intention of escalating the situation with India. Instead, Canada will maintain responsible and constructive engagement with New Delhi, as reported by Reuters.

Tensions between the two nations have been mounting following Trudeau's assertion that there might be a "potential link" between the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and the Indian government.

Trudeau's declaration of non-escalation comes on the same day when a Financial Times report claimed that India had requested Canada to recall approximately 40 diplomats by October 10. Trudeau also expressed his government's desire to be present in India to assist Canadian families.

Despite his allegations against the Indian government, Trudeau has consistently emphasized Canada's commitment to strengthening its relationship with India. He clarified that the Canadian government has no intention of provoking or creating problems, recognizing India's growing importance and the need for continued collaboration.

On the Indian side, the central government vehemently rejected Trudeau's claims, asserting that Canada is providing a safe haven for terrorists.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar criticized Canada for having a "permissive attitude" toward terrorists and extremists who openly advocate violence, noting that such individuals have been granted "operating space" in the country.
