US President Joe Biden's canine companion, Commander, a German Shepherd, has been relocated from the White House premises due to a sequence of biting occurrences involving White House personnel.
This announcement emerged in response to a recent claim that the Commander had bitten a White House staff member, which was raised during Wednesday's routine press briefing with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Jean-Pierre directed inquiries to the first lady's office, which explained that Commander and Dale Haney, the head groundskeeper at the White House, were engaging in playful behavior and that the incident captured by a tourist's photograph, subsequently shared with a news outlet, did not result in any broken skin.
Commander had been involved in multiple biting incidents, with the most recent occurring on September 25. On that occasion, a uniformed Secret Service officer was bitten at the White House and received immediate on-site medical care from medical personnel, as confirmed by USSS Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi.
Alexander, the first lady's spokesperson, remarked at the time that "the White House can be a stressful environment for family pets" and that the Bidens were actively exploring strategies to assist Commander in coping with the often unpredictable atmosphere of the White House grounds.
