After denouncing Israel's strikes, Congress supports "Palestinian rights" the following day

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) has expressed its support for an "immediate cease-fire" between Israeli forces and the Hamas militant group. They have reiterated their long-standing commitment "to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to land, self-government, and the right to live with dignity and respect."

In a statement released on Monday, the CWC emphasized the need for an immediate cease-fire and urged negotiations to commence on all unresolved matters, including the underlying issues that have contributed to the current conflict.

This statement follows the party's previous condemnation of the "brutal attacks on the people of Israel," as stated by Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh. He clarified that the Congress has consistently believed that the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people should be realized through dialogue, while also addressing the national security concerns of Israel.

The conflict between Israel and the Hamas militant group has now entered its third day and has resulted in the loss of over 1,100 lives on both sides. The war was triggered by Hamas militants launching more than 3,000 rockets from Gaza into Israel on Saturday.
