Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made an announcement on Friday, revealing that she has separated from her television journalist partner, Andrea Giambruno. Their relationship, which spanned nearly a decade, has come to an end. This decision was disclosed on her various social media platforms. She acknowledged that their paths have been diverging over a period of time, necessitating the acknowledgment of their separation.
The couple shares a seven-year-old daughter. Andrea Giambruno is known for being the presenter of a news program broadcast by Mediaset, a media group linked to the MFEB.MI conglomerate, owned by the heirs of the late Silvio Berlusconi, a former prime minister and an ally of Meloni.
Recently, Giambruno faced significant criticism due to sexist comments made on and off the air. In this week's developments, another Mediaset program aired off-air clips from Giambruno's show, revealing his use of inappropriate language and gestures toward a female colleague. In one exchange, he remarked, "Why didn't I meet you before?" In another more explicit recording, Giambruno boasted about an affair and encouraged female colleagues to participate in group activities if they wanted to work with him.
Earlier in August, Giambruno faced backlash for making victim-blaming remarks in response to a gang rape case. He suggested that individuals who avoid excessive drinking can prevent encountering problems and "coming across a wolf." Meloni previously expressed that she should not be held accountable for her partner's comments and indicated her intention to refrain from addressing questions regarding his behavior in the future.
