A day following the extensive raids conducted against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan, the Enforcement Directorate made assertions on Wednesday, claiming that he had amassed "substantial proceeds of unlawful activities." These proceeds were allegedly received in the form of cash through illicit staffing practices within the Delhi Waqf Board, and subsequently, Khan purportedly invested this ill-gotten wealth in the acquisition of real estate assets under the names of his associates.
On Tuesday, the federal agency executed searches at 13 different locations within the national capital that were linked to the legislator and individuals connected to him.
The Enforcement Directorate disclosed that the primary focus of their operation was to investigate the illegal hiring of personnel at the Delhi Waqf Board, as well as the alleged wrongful personal gains that took place through the improper leasing of Waqf Board properties. These activities were reported to have occurred during Amanatullah Khan's tenure as the Chairman of the Board between 2018 and 2022, according to a statement released by the agency.
The Enforcement Directorate indicated that the basis for their actions against the Aam Aadmi Party MLA stemmed from a CBI FIR (First Information Report) and three complaints filed with the Delhi Police.
It was further stated by the ED that Amanatullah Khan had "amassed substantial proceeds of crime" from these unlawful activities in the form of cash. This illicit cash was subsequently employed in the acquisition of diverse immovable properties located in Delhi, and these assets were registered under the names of Khan's associates.
The raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate resulted in the seizure of a multitude of "incriminating" records and both physical and digital evidence. These materials, as claimed by the agency, suggest Amanatullah Khan's complicity in acts of money laundering.
Following Amanatullah Khan's meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, Kejriwal alleged that there was a concerted campaign underway to dismantle the Aam Aadmi Party and emphasized that false cases were being lodged against the party's leaders.
Amanatullah Khan, who is 49 years old, currently serves as the representative for the Okhla constituency within the Delhi Assembly.
