Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of AIMIM and Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, has earnestly appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Gaza and extend assistance to them in light of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. This protracted war has regrettably resulted in a substantial loss of lives and injuries, impacting thousands.
During a public gathering in Hyderabad, Owaisi expressed his unwavering support for the people of Palestine, asserting, "I stand and will continue to stand with Palestine. Millions of salutes to the brave men of Gaza who are still fighting today! Netanyahu is a devil and a tyrant and a war criminal!" Furthermore, Owaisi took a firm stance against any restrictions on expressing solidarity with Palestine, proclaiming, "A Baba Chief Minister in our country said that cases will be booked against those who take the name of Palestine, so listen to Baba Chief Minister, I am proudly wearing the flag of Palestine and our Tricolour too. I stand with Palestine."
He went on to appeal directly to the Prime Minister, beseeching him to intervene and put an end to the oppressive actions that have been inflicted upon the Palestinians. Owaisi emphasized that the issue of Palestine transcends religious boundaries and is fundamentally a matter of humanity.
Notably, the Congress party had previously declared its support for the "rights of the Palestinian people to land, self-government, and to live with dignity and respect." This support was reiterated by the Congress Working Committee, which called for an "immediate cease-fire" between the Israeli forces and the Hamas militant group.
The conflict was initiated when Hamas launched a series of attacks on Israel on October 7, resulting in the tragic loss of hundreds of lives and marking the most significant escalation in the longstanding conflict in decades. Since then, these attacks have led to the loss of over 1,300 lives in Israel, while Israeli counter-airstrikes have claimed the lives of more than 2,200 people in Gaza. Israel has reported that approximately 1,500 Hamas militants were killed within its borders.
